2024 Ghana Tour
Captain: Joe Rahman
The 2024 tour of Ghana was our first taste of cricket in West Africa, and proved to be a wonderful experience across all measures. From the first moment we arrived at our opening match at the Achimota Oval in Accra, the tour flowed with banging music, generous portions of food (jollof rice, chicken, banku, fufu, kenke, tilapia, shitto sauce), ice-cold drinks, beautiful weather, and most importantly, truly wonderful people among the opposition and national cricket board. We won two and lost four of our six matches, which is quite good, given our touring record overseas. Overall we struggled with batting, with only one half-century (Ankit) from our 51 innings. Joe once again led the bowling attack, ably backed up by Ujjal and Mario.
We had a party of 12 tourists, who all played the full quota of matches, which was an impressive achievement in itself, and our HQ at the La Palm hotel on the Accra coast proved to be a very pleasant base. Travelling to the provincial gold mining town of Obuasi was an interesting part of the tour, and our matches there were played at the characterful Obuasi Sports Club, with strong local support. Bernard did a great job at organising and accompanying us throughout, and Frank proved to be a trusty bus driver. A social highlight of the tour was an invitation to the Indian Embassy in Accra, where we hobnobbed with diplomats, delegates, and the Ghana Cricket Board.
