There was a very wet lead-up to this game, and indeed we played through sloppy brown conditions throughout. We were lucky to get a game in at all, and if anything the (rainless) first 10 overs of our innings probably gave us the best of the conditions. DP won the toss and Mitch and Gabbay got us off to a good start (53 off 10), Mitch lightning-fast to capitalise on any errors and Gabbay playing a good dour foil. Mounsey attacked the stumps relentlessly, as he always does. Then some heavy rain that made it very wet and very challenging for Jag’s bowlers to stay stable in their approach to the stumps, and thereafter conditions were atrocious for both teams! Mat Chataway’s dibbly-dobbly mediums were very hard to get away, and he collected 4 scalps. We ended up with 123, which seemed a pretty good total in a reduced 30 overs format. Tea - a solid joint effort courtesy of DP and Gabbay, and Dave G provided some much-respected Tunnocks. Jag’s clearly had the tougher of the conditions to bat in, and to make things more challenging for them, Riaz, Sumer and Tim were all superb. They struggled to gain any momentum, apart from Crystal, although he was dropped three times off Mike Gabbay. Ted Proctor secured a steepler at long-off, which was worth noting. Overall this was a good win in very tough conditions, and of course, we are always satisfied when we get past the Jaguars. Hopefully conditions will be drier when we meet again in September.
