Strongroom did not get off to the best of starts as Jimmy fell in the first over, chipping to mid off rather tamely. This brought in Mahesh who look composed and calm at 3. He and Harry proceeded to respect the probing lines of the Goblins opening bowlers Hankinson and Roberts. Runs were hard to come by and when 3 wickets fell in quick succession Strongroom were in some trouble at 37-4 in the 11th over. Following this mini-collapse it was as Joe (58*) and Vinay (35) to rebuild the innings. Boundaries were hard to come by but the steady accumulation of runs from both batsmen took Strongroom past 100. Vinay eventually fell LBW playing across the line but this was another fine innings from a batsman who has looked in great nick from the start of the season. Dave, Chris and Grant all came in in the final few overs, happy to play the aggressor roles while Joe anchored the innings. Chris will feel rather unlucky that his outside edge was palmed by the keeper straight to first slip.
Solid tea with the highlight being some interesting honey & apple sandwiches.
Grant and Shiva opened up the bowling with a Grant grabbing a wicket in the 3rd over. The Hobgoblins had set off at a good pace reaching 50 in 10 overs for the lost of one. Joe was brought into to attack to try and reduce the scoring rate which would have seen the Goblins comfortably home. 3 wickets fell in the 12th over and it could have been 4 if a hearty appeal for LBW was not turned down. This included the dangerous Taylor (24) who had looked in good touch before leaving one that went on to it leg stump. Strongroom backed this up with tight spells from Dave and Chris (bowling slower with more control) which restricted the opposition after the drinks break. It was left to Vinay and Shiva to take the last few wickets (two apiece) and wrap up the Strongroom win. It was a good performance in the field winning in the end by 54 runs.
