I had the pleasure of watching as umpire for 35 of the 40 over knock.
Plenty of crisp boundary-hitting to the off side and quickly taken singles once the field had retreated.
50 off about 50 balls, 100 off 92 and 150 off 112.
That’s champions league acceleration.
All in all a truly magnificent innings.
And much needed in the context of the batting that the oppo had in reply. On a pitch which offered almost nothing to the bowlers (there was no swing to talk of).
Jimmy was also exemplary in his application during the first 20 overs, battling hard to play his part in an match winning opening partnership.
James Schneider’s busy 48 off 41 was a pleasure. Consecutive, TOWERING 6’s off the oppo captain (bowling off break darts) was great viewing.
Mitch and James also bowled their 8 overs at quite a miserly rate and Riaz was on top form in the middle of the innings. Bamboozling the Indian batsmen with quality variations in pace, turn and of course that dreaded Doosra.
I thought it was a great team performance overall, although Jimmy (batting and top keeping), Mitch, James and Riaz probably deserve the accolades for the victory.
Grant, Asif and Mike also bowled very well and we showed great commitment in the field with only 1 clean set of whites at the end of the game!
Hope to see you at the AGM.
