Strongroom just about cobbled together 9 players for this 2nd game in the 3-match series, and we were indebted to Sumers Uncle and cousin to get us to 9! On winning the toss Sumer put the oppo in, as he is keen on chasing a total. The first four overs by myself and Karan were poor – and the two openers tucked into some wayward fare. Behl played well for his 25*, but after his retirement the rest of the Itinerants struggled to post a dangerous total on another stodgy, rain-affected surface. We used 5 bowlers in all, and the three spinners (Joe, Sumer and Uncle Katariya) all bowled really well. Cousin Vinayak ended up submerging his body as he chased a boundary into the waterlogged area adjacent to the midwicket boundary, which certainly ‘browned up’ his whites pretty impressively. Otherwise, Dave Gower did a fine job behind the sticks (including a diving catch to his right, off my bowling), the fielding was good, and Strongroom were generally pleased with their efforts. Sumer was in an aggressive mood with the bat, and succeeded in hitting the dangerous Ravi out of the attack, but he soon the paid the price for his attacking mode, being caught for 16. Thereupon followed a classy partnership between the ‘Two Toms’, Wolfendale and Henderson. Both batsmen played with composure, and neatly worked the bowling around to effectively create our platform for victory. All in all, another highly enjoyable game against a very pleasant opposition. One more match to come, which will no doubt be rain-affected again.
