Won 13, lost 8. A good season, featuring five successive losses early on, followed up by 10 wins out of our last 11 games. Two players stood out for their consistently strong performances, with bat and ball, throughout the season - Joe and Vinay. Vinay played the most games and grew in stature from game to game and claimed the most wickets ever by a pace bowler; something clicked deep inside Joe and he duly emerged as our leading run-scorer and most robust and consistent batsman. However, there were also some other very noteworthy performaces - in particular James going ballistic and smashing 171* - a Strongroom record. We always knew he could bat - but here was some brutal evidence! A career-best 90* from veteran David Gower was most pleasing (he really does need 50 overs to get that ton), and brother Jon claimed his best bowling figures in the same game (5-31). And then who could forget the three fine half-centuries that flowed from the blade of club stalwart Rich Woolhouse? Notable wins included satisfying defeats of longtime rivals Jesmond Jags, Gardeners (twice) and Pacific. Notable defeats - we were rudely surprised to lose all three games on our Devon tour - though the best game of the season was probably our close but epic and valiant loss against Budleigh Salterton on the tour. Overall, though, we played well as a unit as the season went on, with good team cohesion, and strong contributions from a number of 'occasionals' who help maintain our momentum as a club. Oh, and we shouldn't forget to mention Mitch - he only batted four times, but notched up two 100s and two 50s.
